Can you see an improvement on your level of English from September 2006 to June 2008 watching your portfolio? Where, for example?
Absolutely. Now I’m watching my first post on the blog and I think now I have so much facility to write in English, for me it’s easier than two years ago and, my way to write is better.
I think in the oral presentations I also have improved. After do the presentation, the nervousness hasn’t left me ever but presentation after presentation, when I started to talk in front of my mates, it decreased.
And to finish, my speaking I think it’s better. I’m not so fast talking in English but I have improved since 2006.

Which activity best shows your level of English? Why?
I think portfolio is the best activity to show our level of English. Yes, because there, there are all our activities and you can see how you are in each different activity. I think this because you don’t have one level of a not maternal language, so you have different levels depending on the activity. Maybe you are quite good writing but listening, you are so bad.

Which activities were really useful to learn English? Why?
I never like choosing only one option, because I think live is relative. Each activity is useful depending on the part of the language you want to improve, but I'll try.

I think blog is very useful because you learn to describe you feelings and post after post you improve your speed writing.
Moreover, I think it’s very important that teacher asks us to talk in English always we can and she never talks in Catalan (neither outside class) because it’s a very good way to listen and speak with the intuition, naturally.
So, to finish, the oral presentation maybe isn’t useful for the selectivitat exam, but it’s useful for our life and it’s quite important.

Which activities were not very useful? Why not?
Maybe the activity less useful is the forum, not because it’s a bad idea, so because you write so little and the improvement is quite slow there. Also, I think doing all day grammar wouldn’t be so useful, but I agree with some classes about it because it’s necessary to write.

Which activities did you enjoy?
Usually I enjoy activities which aren’t so calm and bored. So I like watching powerpoints, listening my classmates in oral presentations, watching videos, speaking with Annika, listening the native speaker (Sarah Hannity),...

Cannes Festival Kicks Off

This year there already is the 61th Cannes Festival since it started. In this festival the best films are rewarded. This year will be in competition 20 films, coming by France, Italia, Turkey, Singapur, Canada or America.

America comes strong because, for example, Brasil presents two films and Argentina too. One film by Argentina is about Cheguevara and it's in Spanish.

Also, people comes in the Festival will be able to see the new Indiana Jones film, which is voted in internet as good. And also, there is an animation film called Kung Fu Panda.

In the performance we will be able to see Jonh Pen, Angelina Jolie or Robert De Niro, who is gonna hanging on the Palm of gold.

Sex and the City stars cheered in the premiere

In the Sex on the City premiere, a journalist of BBC talks with Sarah Jessica Parker. It was the premiere of the film and it was in Leceister Square. She was dressed in a green Alexander McQueen oufit and with an original hat.
She answered that these reception was really amazing, "unforgettable and miraculous" she said, and it's true all people were shouting her.
Also, she explained that the film was shot in New York because it's a nice city to express the feelings of the film.
Finally, the journalist asked her if she thought that Sex and the City was changing the lives of the people who watches it. And she said that she didn't think so. Her opinion is the film and soap opera have a good write, a good voice and that the beautiful things it explains, are doing it connects a lot with women.

Last weekend I proceed to do an interview to Pere, a farmer of my village, to report you a little, about this beautiful and sacrificed work.

Carla: Hello Pere!
Farmer: Good morning! What do you want today?
C: Well, I want to know some things about your work to report the people. Do you agree?
F: Oh yes, I’m happy to see that someone wants to know about our work and inform the people. In fact, it’s necessary to raise the society aware of the importance of the farmers.
C: I know, for this reason I have chose this topic for the interview. And who better to answer my questions? Naturally you, a real farmer about...how many years?
F: Oh, I’m working on it for fifty years!
C: And, since you start working, has it changed?
F: Yes…really. Now, the technology helps us a lot, our quality of work has changed, it’s better.
C: But, are there only positive changes?
F: No! There are lots of negative changes!
C: Can you explain me some of them?
F: Oh yes! The worst is the lack of farmers; young people don’t want to do this work because it’s too much sacrificed. Then, there is the lack of water, the bad weather, the lack of subsidies, and the cheaper products from other countries which we can’t compete.
C: And as I can see, the government also has to raise aware about your situation no?
F: Yes, it’s the first, the government would have to help us to improve our situation.
C: Well, and to finish, what could you say to convince young people to do your work?
F: Oh, be a farmer isn’t an easy work, as I have said it’s so much sacrificed, but it also have some good things. You can work with the nature, you take care of the animals and plants, and you can see how fast they grow up. I don’t know, I think is very beautiful!
C: I agree with you! Thank you very much for you time Pere!

Women on high position can't have a maternity leave?

Nowadays women are getting more important roles in the society and they can get high positions in their professional life. The problem comes when a woman is pregnant, like the Minister for Defense Carme Chacón. In this situation can she have a maternity leave?
On the one hand, if she has a maternity leave her ministry would be "alone" and in a difficult situation, as a result, the conutry could be damaged. So, not only for Chacón also for all woman with an importan job.
On the other hand, if she can't, she lose the right of have a family or to educate and pass with her children their first times of life.
In my opinion, women are equal as men and they can have an important position as men with the problems it implies. Because the family is very important and if a woman have to have a maternity leave another person can fill in for her.

Gandhi daughter visits assassin

In 19th March, Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of Rajiv Gandhi, visited the prision where one of the murderers of her father was closed.

Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomb while he went to a meeting. It seems that Tamil Tiber rebels were the responsables of the kill. One of them is Sriharan, the person who Pryanka visited. She was punished with a death sentence, wich was changed following a plea of clemency by Gandhi's woman.
Gandhi's daughter said it was a personal question and that she wanted to go to the prison to make peace with all the violence in her life. However, Sriharan lawyers said it was a very cordial visit.

Mumbai no honking day

In Mumbai they have created he "No honking day " to avoid people use less the car's horn and they mark it as a "World health day".
"No honking day" is the slogan to promote the campaign and also, they give stickers.
Is the first time in India they do a campaing like this and eight hundred policemen will controle that people carry out it.
If somone use the horn indiscriminately they will be punished, because the city is looking for a silent ride.
Although, there are some people who say driving in Mumbai without honking is next to impossible, because it prevents many accidents.

Yesterday I saw Nothing Hill in the language room, so was funny to see it again.

"Surrealist but nice"

One day, in the travel's bookshop of William went Anna Scott, a really famous actress. She bought a travel book and left the shop, but then, in the street, they came across and, unintentionally, he threw a drink over her. With this excuse he invited her at home to clean her clothes and she accepted. After change her clothes she left, but one minute later, someone touched the bell. She was Anna and came to give him a kiss. He promise didn't say anything about that, and with melancholy and love he remembered her until she rang up him to have an appointment. The curious thing is the appointment is when the actress had some interviews with journalists and William have to pass there as a journalist, a really nice and funny moment. Then is when they decided to have a normal meeting and, as both are busy they were to be seen on a family dinner of him, the birthday of his sister.

The film continues...but I couldn't see the whole and I don't remember more. I'm really bad to remember the arguments of the films I see!!! :(

Spain's education is one of the worst of Europe and it's reflected on the high number of teenagers who fail. It's true that not all is cause of the curriculum and the sistem, there are lots of things to study the why, but I think it's an important factor.

On one hand, it's obvious that we are in the new technologies. The strange is why we can't learn using these resources if we have them to do all the other things. We shouldn't have to use lots of papers and we sould help to not increase the pollution.

On the other hand, the government should have to retake and rethink what the pupils need to learn and if it's useful in their lifes. And they have to understand how is a pupil or a teenager to know if they are able to do this efforce and if the way and the things what they learn will be useful in a future.

In conclusion, people who really know how works a class, a school or a highschool is who should update the curriculum. So a teachers should be the people who update this, not only politicians who haven't stayed never with pupils and the education.

Second oral presentation

This had been the last oral presentation in the english class and we talked about our research projects. I was nervous, but it isn't a surprise because when I have to do a oral presentation I always nervous.

The best of this oral is that we could talk about one topic we know a lot, because who doesn't know how is his research paper??? But, the worst is that is very difficult to reduce it to be explained in only five minutes, because it seems to be a very superficial paper.

Well, I talked about the objectives, the methodology, the theorical part and the practical part of my paper and I put some examples that I could explain superfecialy.

I think I have improved a lot my presentations but I also make mistakes. Pronunciation would be better and I'm always looking the powerpoint, so I don't understand it because I knew what I had to say, I think I only look on the powerpoint because of the shyness.

The break-up

In the language room I saw "The break-up" a nice and funny film wich I have never seen.

Summary

It's about one couple who is in love and live on the same floor, but they have a lot of problems, so they decide to split up. But the strange is they don't slip us as a normal pair, they decide to separate inside their flat. They divide the space and each one has his parts of the house, for example, the girl is the owner of right part of the sofa, and the boy is the owner of the left part, so they cannot exceed. And then, they prepare some plans and estrategies to make the other jelousy.

Well, here finish the summary because I couldn't see more about the film and I hadn't the oportunitie to finish it another day.

My ideal place

In all my mood states I dream that I'm in a nice and far place... It's perfect, there I can relax and have fun. At the moment, I need more than ever to relax and have fun and for this reason I'm going to explain how it is.
The sun, the beach and the night are the perfect combination to feel good and relax or to feel good and have fun, and my favourite landscape have these three qualities.
In my dream, I get up every morning in a small wood house. It is in front of a lonely beach, which have a very blue and crystal water. The grains of the sand are completely thin and they burn after being exposed to the sun a long time.
When the sand ends, there’s a little jungle full of flowers, trees and palms and when you look it, you see a green landscape with dots of all the colours you can imagine, which are the flowers.
If you go through the jungle, not so far there is a beautiful town. All the houses, shops and buildings are made of wood and all people are in the streets. It’s only a place of holidays, there nobody works and nobody is stressed.
At night there are a lot of parties next to another beach. The only lights are thousand of candles and the light of the moon. And there, sounds the best music and it’s full of people, who have dressed with white clothes, drinking, dancing and talking.
It would be a lovely place to pass all the holidays. I hope to come across one like this one day.

Sara's presentation

One day came to visit and talk with us one of Anika's best friends. She, with a powerpoint, did an oral presentation talking about personal things.
Her name is Sara and she is from Belfast, Irland. She is 21 years old and she is working in the marketing of the company IBM. I surprised about how a so young women can works in a so important company, she seemed to be really hard-working. After, she told us about her family: she have one sister and one brother and lots of cousins; about her friends, and finally about the food, the language and some things about her country.
I think was a good idea that she came to talk us in english, like one of our oral presentations. For this reason is good, because we could saw how another person bigger than us doing a presentation and learn about it.
Apart from that the most useful aspect is we could listen a native english person, like when we can chat with Annika, but as they have different accents it was more useful because we could compare their different accents.

Rio carnival

SUMMARY

A lot of people have been in the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, and crowds looked the parade.

The poorest neighbourhoods have been worked in this festival for twelve moths. And the result was exceptional, it was a festival with a lot of colours and music, which was visited by hundred thousand visitors from around the world.

Each group chooses a theme to be relfected in their costumes. But, causing a lot of disagreement, one samba school decided to represent the holocaust victims, going undressed. Their dessire was represent a thing that shouldn't happen again. After, Jewish leaders asked to a judge about it and the float was banned.

Although, the behivor of the city was really exciting and people leave aside their difficulties to survive.

SUMMARY
This 16th of December Barcelona give the annual Premis de Barcelona awards. On December 5 films compete in awards of fifteen categories of films made in Catalonia (best feature film, best film in Catalan,best documentary,...).
This year there is a big surprise because one film selected for best picture, a little unnoticed by the public, competes in lots of categories with films like The Orphanage and 53 Days of Winter.

Pactar amb el gat, is the first feature film by Joan Marimón and it is set in Barcelona's Gracia neighbourhood. It's a comedy nominated in eight categories. Inicially the film isn't very known but with the nomination some 800 signatures have been collected in a petition to Verdi cinemas to run the film.
The Orphanage and 53 Days of Winter are nominated for best film and for best actres, with Belén Rueda and Aina Clotet respectively, among other categories.
Can Tunis, the film about the city's down-and-out neighbourhood of the same name, is selected for best documentary, and Raval, Raval, for best film in Catalan.
The strange is the absence of films such as En la ciudad de Sylvia, which competed at the last Venice film festival, La Soledad and Barcelona (un mapa).
Although a celebration of the Catalan film industry, some films, as The Orphanage, are not always Catalan in either language or theme. To be seleccioned for the event, films must have a minimum of 20 % of their production crew from Catalonia, and significant roles played by Catalan actors.

This year Miss China, Zhang Zilin, has been chosen Miss World. It has been the first time that an East Asia contestant has won it. Miss Angola, Micaela Reis, was the second finalist and Miss Mexico, Carolina Moran Gordillo, came third. Contestants were qualified on physical fitness, style, dress, personality and beauty.
The 57th Miss World festival was celebrated the same day that the world aids day to awareness the people. Also, in the campaign participated the oldest daughter of Nelson Mandela, whose brother died of AIDS.
In China the beauty was still ban a little before to be the seat of this festival. Last time it was moved from Niger to Londres because there were complaints in the country.

In England, a new way to learn is becoming very popular. Some families choose online schools instead of ordinary high-schools. In that case, students learn at home, using internet to communicate with the teacher and other classmates.
The principal disadvantage of this new trend is that children can’t relate with other children. Apart from the friends that you can meet because your parents are also friends, when you are little you relate with the children in your class. And so, you learn, year after year, how to be with other people and how to work in groups, so it’s the preparation for confront the live when you are an adult. Against, in the internet schools you can’t learn it.
In spite of that, also there are some advantages. Some children can follow the classes but for others it’s too difficult and after comes the school failure. If you learn in this way, you can work on your own and work at the rhythm that you need. In addition, some children who are more shy and weak can be affected by bulling in the ordinary school, and if they learn at home by internet, they can’t have these problems.
In conclusion, this trend can be the future of teaching but now, it’s too new, too different and it still has some disadvantages which don’t convince the traditional thought.

Today, in the english class I have read a BBC article and here there is the summary I have done, the new words I have learned and I have copyed the link's web.

SUMMARY

Last sunday was the final F1 race and it decided who will win the world title. Kimmy Raikkonen, a ferrari pilot, was the winner. The other aspirants to win the title were Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

Lewis Hamilton said to the BBC he didn't want to win if another pilot (Kimmy Raikkonen) were desqualificated, he wants to be the winner doing the best job. He will have more oportunities to win the world championship and he thinks that in a future, he can do it. For him, it has been a phenomenal year and he is very proud of everyone helps him to get him where he is.

Fernando Alonso, his team-mate, said that he'd be ebarrassed for this sport if Hamilton had won the title because the person who merits it is Raikkonen.

Maggie Fitzgerald wants to be a profesional boxer. Everyday she trains in the Frankie Dun's gym. Frankie is a trainer whose main wish is that is protected boxer, Willie, will be the champion. In the gym also works Eddie, an old boxer and a Frankie's friend.

Maggie tries to be trained by Frankie without success, but when Willie leaves him, two fights before the title, he accepts to train her. He only puts the condition that when she will be ready she must find another trainer.

Then, in her first fight, Frankie see that the new Maggie's trainer has made a deal with the oposition trainer, he takes control of the situation and helps her to win.

The personal of a psychiatric decided to do a mini test to see if some patients have improved. A false door was drawn in the wall to see if the patients realized that there wasn’t a door.

Summary of a Magazine: Organ donor scheme

Spain has a very high number of organ donors, more than other European countries. It is dues to the fact that there are people that work on liaise the people and also, because you are always able to change your opinion if you said that you wanted it. In Spain the views of relatives are respected, in Austria they ignore it and in Britain you must carry a card to indicate your desire to donate. In UK, to be a donor you have to register with the NHS Organ donor register that have a database shared between European countries. In Spain you can sing up with the ONT, but this only informe relatives of your wishes.

Hello teacher!

How are you?
I’m a little nervous for all things we have to do this course but the rest very well. I already wanted to start because I already want to finish!!!

Did you know? In June I did the PET exam and I passed it! I was afraid, but after do it, I was more relax. The speaking note was the worst but the others very well.

This summer has been the first I have worked. I worked in an office of Figueres, called Tax, since nine o’clock of the morning until one o’clock of the midday. They help people on their companies’ management. I was in the insurance department and I process the documents on the computer. I really liked work there because I have all afternoons and weekends free, I like use the computers, my workmates were very very good and in this way, mornings weren’t boring.

Last course was the last of my friends and Vicenç in the high-school. I would like to study in Barcelona, prove other things, be more independent and stay with them but, in the other hand, I also want to stay with my age friends whom I love a lot. Even so, I will miss Vicenç and the girls a lot. I hope don’t lose our friendship…

And well, the summer has been really funny (with the girls we went to a camping in Port de la Selva and in Platja d’Aro, we celebrated the eighteenth birthdays of Blanca and Xènia, we went to the beach, we went out at night and lots of other things) but the course starts and I have to work more than ever in all subjects, in the research project and for the selectivity.

I hope we pass a good course and we continue learning.

Well, we have arrived in the end of the school year... This course, as I said we have done a new english project which wants that every student found his best way for learn. We have recorded speakings for seeing how is our english, we have done three oral presentations in front of our class, some days we have been able to try what excercices could be better for us, we have done listenings, we have talked a lot and lots of other things.

In my opinion, the best way for learn are the speakings. For me, do the oral presentation is difficult and I would prefer don't do it but in the other hand I observe that it's useful for us and we can get more trust in us.
Another thing I can observe at home is that,listen english music is very useful because If you remember a song you remember new words and new expresions.

Finally, I say farewell and I hope next year we can learn like this course.

Sense and sensibility

At first, for the third term I chose a a book called "Far from the madding crowd" but I change it. Finally, I have read Sense and Sensibility an I give you a summary.

When the father died, his wife and his three daughters (Elinor, Marianne and Margaret) had have to leave his state although Elinor, the eldest sister, was in love with Edward Ferrars, because the inheritance was for her stepbrother (John) and they had to went to Barton cottage. They have luck because Sir John Middleton, the landlord, was very kind and friendly and he helped them a lot and invited them in all his parties for meet people.
In one party they met Colonel Brandon, who was very much in love with Marianne but she wasn’t. After that, one day, when Marianne was hurt John Willoughby helped her and she felt in love. He seemed that too but never said that and one day he had to go to London. Then, in one Middleton party Miss Dashwood’s met Lucy and Anne Steele and Lucy told Elinor that she was engaged with Edward Ferrars. It’s a very sad and difficult notice for Elinor but she didn’t say anything and she hid her sadness.
After, Madam Jennings (the mother-in-law of Middleton) wanted to go to London and Elinor and Marianne decide to go with them for some months. There, Marianne discovered that Willoughby was married. Also, Colonel Brandon tells Elinor that Willoughby isn’t an honest person because he had poor and miserable one girl who Colonel Brandon had to take care. And it’s evident that Marianne was so much sad.
After, the sisters went to lot meetings with his stepbrother and also, Elinor knew that Mr Ferrars went to marry with a rich woman and for her is so strange because Lucy Steele said her the secret.
Then, when they come back, Marianne was ill. Here is when Willoughby went to tell them that he got married with a rich woman because he needs money but he only loved Marianne. Also, Colonel Brandon helped them a lot with the illness and he ask for marry with Marianne who when got better said yes and in the future they were a lot in love.
Also, In the same days, Elinor knew that Edward didn’t get married neither Lucy or the rich woman and they got married to and went to live in another state.
The distance of the three sisters and her mother wasn’t important because they didn’t lose the contact.

Sumary: Before have an album out, Lilly Allen uploaded her songs in myspace (a social networking site) and had benn played close to half million times. Her music is influenced by ska, reggae and calypso. qhen she did a concert in Barcelona people could see she is a rash and confident young woman.

First oral presentaion

Here you can see my first oral presentation. It was about a topic what we like and I chose talk about chameleons because I like it a lot. At first, I was very nervous and I thought I couldn't do it, but when I started talking I feel better. I use a power point for do it more atractive and I organized the information in different parts, first I described the animal, secondly I talked about their habitat, then of their reproduction, fourthly of their diet and finally of their change of color. I think the shyness and reading from my notes were the errors but I think I have improved.
